What exactly is VerseTurtle?
It's a Bible-verse-of-the-day app with a gentle, game-like spirit. Each day you get one passage and a few relaxed minutes to take it in, plus streaks, a growing verse collection, and the full Bible to read whenever you like. Think “daily habit you'll actually keep,” not “app that nags you.”
Is it really free?
Yes. The daily verse, the daily challenge, your streak, a 250-verse starter journey, and the complete Bible reader are all free, with no ads — ever — and no account to create. We believe Scripture itself should never sit behind a paywall — and in VerseTurtle, it never is.
Then what's the “Golden Shell,” and is it a subscription?
The Golden Shell is a single, one-time upgrade — $2.99, never a subscription. Pay once and it's yours for good. It opens the complete 850-verse journey across all twenty themes, every future wave of verses we add, the red-letter words of Jesus throughout the Bible, and extra share-card designs. It's simply how we keep the app going without renting your faith back to you month after month.
What are the “red letters”?
It's a tradition many of us grew up with: Bibles that print the spoken words of Jesus in red. With the Golden Shell, VerseTurtle carries that into the app — His words appear in crimson in the reader, and gentle markers show every book and chapter where He speaks, so you can follow His voice through the New Testament. It switches on the moment you upgrade, and you can turn it off any time in Settings.
Which Bible translation does it use?
Two, and you can switch between them any time: the King James Version, for its timeless, memorable language, and the World English Bible, a clear modern update that reads easily. Both are in the public domain, which means we can include the whole Bible with no licensing strings attached — and pass that freedom to you.
Do I need an internet connection or an account?
Neither. Everything — the daily verse, the challenges, and the entire Bible — works fully offline once the app is installed. There's no sign-up, no password, and nothing you have to hand over to get started. Open it and go.
Is my information private?
Very. VerseTurtle doesn't ask who you are, and your streak, collection, and reading progress live on your own device rather than on our servers. There are no ads and no third-party trackers following you around. You can read the full details on the privacy page.
How do the daily reminders work?
You choose a time that fits your morning (or your night), and VerseTurtle sends one quiet nudge when the day's verse is ready. Prefer no reminders at all? Turn them off in a tap. It will never buzz at you throughout the day.
Which phones does it run on?
Both iPhone and Android. Grab it from the App Store or Google Play, and your streak starts the day you do. There's nothing to sign up for and nothing to configure — install it, open it, read today's verse.
Will you keep adding more verses?
That's the plan. The library already spans 850 hand-picked verses, and new waves arrive over time. If you've unlocked the Golden Shell, every one of them is included at no extra cost — the collection is meant to grow right alongside your habit.
Can I use it with my family, small group, or church?
Absolutely — that's one of our favorite uses. Everyone keeps their own streak and collection, and when a verse speaks to you, you can turn it into a shareable card and send it to your group in seconds. It's a warm, low-pressure way to stay in the Word together.
Who's behind this?
One person — Anthony, an Air Force veteran who wanted a gentler way to get to know the words of the Bible and ended up building it himself. He tells the whole story, in his own words, on the About page.
